Staycation Ideas for Summer
With flights cancelled, travel plans postponed, and social distancing guidelines in place, summer vacation might look a little different this year. But that doesn’t mean we can’t make the most of our time at home with a staycation! Here are 10 easy summer staycation ideas that will make summer 2020 just as fun as any other!
Plan a self-care day
With so much going on in the world, it’s important to remember to take care of YOU. One of our favorite at-home activities is a spa and self-care day. Bust out the mani-pedi tools, do some yoga, throw on a face mask and take a day to just RELAX in any way that works for you!
Be a tourist in your own town
It’s possible your vacation was canceled this year, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of things to do in your own city – with social distancing guidelines in mind, of course! Use a travel website like Trip Advisor to look up tourist destinations and fun things to do near you that you’ve never done before. You could try a new hike, or go check out that quirky roadside attraction you’ve always heard about!
Have a Movie Night
No matter the situation, your age, or the season, a good ol’ fashion movie night is always a great at-home option. You can watch a classic, beloved movie series, or take advantage of the many new movie releases available for streaming! Our Netflix guides are a great place to start for movie and tv bingeing ideas.
Make your own waterpark
No pool? No problem! Bring the water activities to you by making your own at-home waterpark. All you need is a hose or a sprinkler and a little creativity for all-day fun for all ages. Plus, more excuses to put on your Lime Ricki swimsuit is a total win, right?
Camp at home
As many state parks and campgrounds are closed, it’s the perfect time to get creative with your camping. Set up a tent in your backyard and enjoy the great outdoors right at home – you know, where there’s electricity and running water.
Start a passion project
This year has given many of us the unique opportunity to slow down and have free time where we normally wouldn’t. If there’s been a project you’d like to start or a new hobby you’d like to try – NOW is the time to do it. So go ahead and start that YouTube channel, learn how to watercolor, plan out that DIY home project you’ve been dreaming of – whatever it is, there’s nothing stopping you!
Cook a fancy dinner
Eating at a restaurant still may not be an option for some, which makes this a perfect time to perfect those cooking skills. I like to bring the fine dining experience home and go ALL OUT with fancy table settings, a quality charcuterie board appetizer, and maybe even some candles for ambiance. If cooking isn’t your thing, ordering takeout from a local restaurant works great too–we won’t judge.
Create an Outdoor Oasis
Being stuck at home doesn’t mean you need to be stuck inside! Dedicate some time this summer to creating an oasis in your outdoor space so you have a place to unwind and enjoy some sunshine. Start with some comfy seating, a cute pillow, a plant, and a place to store some books and magazines for summer reading while you relax!
Go screen-free
Sometimes taking a staycation just means stepping away from the stressors and distractions of every day life. Take a break from social media, reading the news, and other forms of screen time for a little while, and focus on spending time in nature, with loved ones, and taking care of yourself!
Head outside
There’s nothing like fresh air to get your summer staycation started, and it’s something we may never take for granted again! There are so many outdoor activities that you can take part in, like hiking, kayaking, or even just a picnic at the park.
How are YOU spending your summer?
