Every few months, we put out a new must-read book list on the blog, but we have never shared our team’s favorite books! Almost every member of our staff is a reader, and conversations around our office revolve around current-reads almost daily. We knew we could get some good recommendations for this post!

Lime Ricki's favorite books! Such good recommendations! | Reading list | limericki.com

NiCOLE’s Favorites

Nicole is one of the three sisters who founded Lime Ricki. Find her by the pool with a good book every day during the summer.

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd | I love the message that despite heartbreak, there is beauty and goodness in life, and sometimes we find healing in the most unexpected ways. This coming of age book is just so beautifully written that I re-read it every few years. I also love to listen to the audio version of it, if you’re an Audible fan.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak | Set in Germany during WWII, this book was written with a unique narrative, and shows the devastation of hatred and war, the beauty of humankind amidst it, and the power that books can have in our lives. A worthwhile and interesting read.

Jennifer’s Favorites

Another one of Lime Ricki’s founding sisters, Jennifer loves books that inspire her to see the world in a new way.

The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben | Who knew trees had so much life in them and that they are so similar to people. I learned they communicate with each other and help each other. I learned so much about myself by learning about trees. What is there for you to learn from a tree?

AWOL on the Appalachian Trail by David Miller | One mans story of fulfilling a dream, going through hard things and coming through the other side a changed person. Don’t we all have dreams we want to pursue and are too fearful to chase them? It can be done as we let go of fear and focus on the possibilities. There is always a way when we follow our hearts!

Colette’s Favorites

Colette is the third Lime Ricki sister, and loves listening to books and podcasts on her drive to and from our stores!

A Million Miles in a Thousand Years by Donald Miller | Nonfiction, inspiring book that showed me that there’s living, and then there’s living with purpose. Either way, each day goes by and we get older and life happens. It inspired me to want to live with purpose and passion every day!

The Storied Life of AJ Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin | It’s a new read, interesting especially if you like literature and bookstores… and especially a great read if you want to see that miracles can come from what seems like very bad circumstances. It was a fun summer read.

Shannon’s Favorites

Shannon is our social media manager, and has a love for reading memoirs and “books that make you think” in her spare time.

Beartown by Fredrik Backman | It’s so hard to pick just one of Fredrik Backman’s books to be my favorite, because I love them all! Beartown barely comes out on top because of its depth, metaphors, and intricate storyline that he pulls it off beautifully. If you’ve read any of Backman’s books in the past, this one is definitely a little different, but just as, if not more, incredible.

Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom | I remember reading Tuesdays With Morrie for a class in high school, and it was one of those rare times you read something for an assignment and actually end up loving it. This book is a record of the conversations with Morrie, a man whose life is slowly ending due to ALS. It’s a truly life-changing and eye-opening story that I could read again and again.

Alacia’s Favorites

Alacia is our warehouse manager and often starts our book discussions while mailing out your orders. You know any recommendation from her will be a winner!

The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling | This will forever be my fave because I wasn’t much of a reader until I read this series after high school. I love everything about the books and have been an avid reader ever since.

The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows | I can’t even remember how I found out about this book but I’m so happy I did! It’s a cute post after WWII story, about an English reporter that receives a letter from a man living in Guernsey, an island in the English Chanel, and the friendship that they foster. The book is written in letter format and everything about it is just so charming! In fact, I have purchased 4 copies from a local shop so I have some on hand to give out as gifts!

McKenzie Y’s Favorites

McKenzie Y is the manager of the Provo Lime Ricki location. After work, though, you can usually find her with her nose buried deep in a mystery or thriller novel.

What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty | I love this author, but this is one of her books that I feel has a moral. Without giving too much away, I feel like I learned the importance of staying young at heart while figuring out how to mature, but at the same time never forgetting where you came from and who you love. I highly recommend any of this authors novels.

Bossypants by Tina Fey | Talk about empowering yourself! You will have tears falling down and your cheeks will be sore from laughing so hard. Tina Fey has you feeling on top of the world and she teaches you to appreciate yourself and your quirks through her life stories and how she got to where she is.

McKenzie T’s Favorites

McKenzie T is the manager of the Salt Lake City Lime Ricki location and has a soft spot for love stories and beautiful prose.

Scrambled Eggs at Midnight by Brad Barkeley & Heather Hepler | This is a tale of young love but with mature souls. Each chapter switches between the girl’s point of view and the boy’s point of view. It’s whimsical, deep, and a read I return to year after year.

Devil in the White City by Erik Larson | This one is a true story sharing Chicago’s rich history in the late 1800s. It tells of an architect who invents the Ferris wheel juxtaposed with the startling story of H. H. Holmes, a masterful serial killer. It keeps you on your toes the entire time. Beautifully written.
