The transition from summer to fall is always an exciting one. There’s not many things that compare to the cool temperatures of autumn. So in preparation, here’s a list of five things you can do to make this season memorable.

1. Try making your own hot chocolate. Not the kind you buy in a can, but look up a recipe in an old cook book, and make it on the stove. It’s got to be on a chilly day of course, and preferably a long one. Then coming home and warming up to a cup of homemade cup will make you feel like your life could make pretty good Pinterest material (PS do you follow Lime Ricki on Pinterest?).

2. Find a friend with an outdoor pool to see what it feels like to swim after the leaves start falling. They should also have a hot tub for when your chilled bones need to be warmed back up. Some of my favorite swims have come when I maybe shouldn’t have been swimming because it was so cold. It’s kind of exciting.

3. Take a fall break (a weekend) and go somewhere you’ve never been before. Even if it’s to a ghost town 45 minutes away, go and have an adventure. Pack a picnic, put the perfect playlist on your phone, and go get to know the world around you. It’s always surprising to me just how close by some pretty amazing places are.

4. Give out five king sized candy bars to a few lucky kids on Halloween. See how excited they get when they realize you’re not handing them peanut butter taffies, and feel good you just made a few kids’ night on one of the best nights of the year.

5. Look up when your favorite band is coming to town, and go see them. Concert regret is a real thing. I remember when Sufjan Stevens came to town and I didn’t go. This was four years ago, and I still remember everyone talking about how it was the very best musical experience of their life. I think I worked that night instead of going. Switch shifts if you have to, and go.

Let us know what you plan on doing this fall to make it memorable. Is there anything you’d add to this list? Leave a comment so that we can add it to ours.
