We know that sometimes, the hardest part about working out is finding the motivation to get started. Unfortunately, buying adorable new workout clothes alone just doesn’t cut it. Trust us – we’ve tried it! Some of us at Lime Ricki have tried tons of things to increase our motivation. We find great playlists to boost our moods, we sign up for fun exercise classes to switch up our routines, we even buy ourselves cute new swim athleisure to wear to those exercise classes! Sometimes we even reward ourselves with a sweet treat after our workout (it works!). Through all of our attempts at seeking new incentives to workout, we’ve found that using workout apps is actually really motivational. (Right behind buying more athleisure outfits, of course!)

Our Favorite Workout Apps woman wearing athleisure leggings and crop top while jumping

We’ve tried our fair share of the numerous workout apps available and with so many options to choose from, some are definitely better than others. So, we compiled this list because we wanted to make things easier for you. Not everyone wants to spend money on a workout app, so we have plenty of options for free apps too! Keep reading to learn all about our favorite, tried-and-true workout apps that won’t cost you anything:

YouTube
While it might not seem like it, YouTube is actually a really great option for finding free workouts to follow. All you have to do is complete a quick search for exercise videos, and you’ll see what we mean! There are thousands of videos from a wide variety of creators available on YouTube, and they’re free! Whether you’re interested in yoga, strength training, cardio, or anything in-between, you can find the perfect video for your needs on this app. Jennifer, one of our team members, recommends the channel Yoga With Adriene as a place to start.

Seven
Seven is a workout app that guides you through short, 7-minute workouts. Our team member Nicole loves Seven because she can connect the app to her Apple Watch, allowing her to get accurate health data from her workouts. This app also features animations that show you how to do each of the exercises, which can be a great perk for beginners. All you have to do is download the Seven app and start exercising!

Nike+ Training Club
Our team member Shannon is a big fan of the Nike+ Training Club app. This app is a great option for those of you who are ready to get serious about exercising. The app features workout plans created by real trainers and even some of your favorite celebrities. The workouts are paired with instructional videos as well as verbal inspirational messages to help keep you on track. Whether you want a six-minute workout routine or a 45-minute power session, you’ll be able to find something you love on this app. You can even customize your own four-week exercise plan!

Lose It
If your main focus is losing weight, you might want to check out Lose It. It isn’t necessarily a workout app, but a weight loss tracker. This app allows you to log your meals throughout the day, as well as any workouts that you complete, so you can easily track your progress as you go.

My Fitness Pal
The My Fitness Pal app is similar to the Lose It app. Its main purpose is to help users track everything health-related, and has features such as meal logs and exercise trackers. Harlee enjoys using My Fitness Pal because she appreciates how it gives her the bigger picture about what’s going on with her body, which motivates her to implement healthy changes into her lifestyle.

All of these are great free workout app options, but we do have a couple of other apps that we love. The following are two of our favorite paid workout apps:

Fitbit
You can only use the Fitbit apps if you already own a Fitbit tracker, so that’s why we included it on the paid workout apps list. Similar to Apple Watches, Fitbits can monitor various health-related aspects, such as how many steps you take per day, how long you’re sleeping, how much exercise you’re getting, etc. With the Fitbit app, you can also keep track of your daily food and water intake. Our team member Alacia loves this one because it motivates her to stay active. She also enjoys completing the Fitbit challenges through the app with her friends.

Sweat With Kayla
Kayla Itsines has become a well-known name in the exercise community. She’s best known for her workout guides, but she also has her own workout app. When you subscribe to the app, you’ll get exclusive access to new workouts each week, as well as healthy recipes and tips for meal prepping. Nicole tried out this app for a while and said that she enjoyed how the workouts motivated her to push herself harder than ever before.
